Abstract
This research aims to investigate the representation of human psychoanalysis aspects in Leigh Whannell’s SAW (2004) and Shusuke Kaneko’s DEATH NOTE (2006), while also comparing the similarities of psychoanalysis aspects that are available and the differences that distinguish the similarities in both films. This study uses Freud’s psychoanalysis theory to find the psychoanalysis aspects and uses comparative literature theory by Susan Bassnett to compare the psychoanalysis aspects that appear in both films. This research used descriptive qualitative as its method. This study analyzed by understanding the film motive as the representation of the author’s Id, the author’s Ego is represented by the film's main character that drives the film plot, and the Superego is represented by the general society presented in the film. As a result, it is found that the similarities in both films lie in Light Yagami and John Kramer as the representation of Ego, in which they have the same action patterns, dominant eros instinct, similar Ego defense mechanisms, and are more tend to follow the film motive as the representation of Id, thus it leads to both films’ plot. The way the psychoanalysis aspect works in the films fully reflects how psychoanalysis aspects in humans work.
