Abstract
This research discusses the formula in the adventure genre in the film Tomb Raider (2018), directed by Roar Uthaug. This study is formulated into two topics of discussion, namely how the elements of the adventure genre are described in the Tomb Raider film (2018) and how the character or heroine constructs the formula in the adventure genre in the Tomb Raider film (2018). In this study, a qualitative descriptive research method was used. To analyze the two aspects of the problem formulation, this study uses two theoretical concepts that have been selected, namely the Hero's Journey theory from Joseph Campbell (Campbell, 2003), which also includes various aspects of the stages, namely departure, initiation, and return. In addition, this study also uses John G. Cawelti's (Cawelti, 2004), adventure formula theory, which provides a structural narrative framework that explains the obstacles and dangers faced by the characters in the story. The data contained in this variable, which will be the variable in this study, totals fifty scene images, which are divided into Hero Journey stages containing twenty-two scene images and adventure formula theory containing twenty-eight scene images. This study applied a formula structure using film as an object and scene capture and dialogue as analysis tools. This study's results indicate a construction formula in the adventure film genre, consisting of four stages based on the Hero's Journey concept, starting from departure, initiation, and return, according to Joseph Campbell's theory. Apart from that, there is the concept of an adventure formula, which includes the obstacle of dangerous, group or individual heroes, and the triumph, which is the theory of John G. Cawelti. This study concludes that the idea of formula construction in the adventure genre is found through the concept of stages of the hero or Hero's Journey, by approaching the characters or characters in the film, as well as through the idea of story structure, which reveals patterns that are commonly found in adventure stories.
