Abstract
New perspectives on linguistic originality and innovation can be gained from the language used in online games. An interesting feature that necessitates a thorough comprehension is the creativeness of the vocabulary employed in the game world. This study aims to explore how language is employed in the gaming world, specifically in the naming of medals as a mirror form of game features and awards for player successes in the UNO game program. Medal names increase the player's experience by analyzing morphological linguistic patterns, with a focus on word formation and semantics meaning analysis. By using qualitative descriptive analysis, this research aims to understand the types of word formation processes in naming medal names according to Yule's (2010) theory as well as the types of meaning semantically with Lyons's (1981) theory. The results revealed that the most commonly used word formation process is compounding, as it allows for easier comprehension and player engagement. Then, another discovered process was used as a variation of the UNO game in an effort to approach UNO to players. Then, most of the medal names have a contextual meaning, reflecting the background of the event that UNO launched, while the lexical meaning is less common, simply highlighting the game's approach.
