Abstract

Representative illocution is a significant concept within the realm of linguistic pragmatics, a branch of linguistics that focuses on the study of language use in context and the ways in which meaning is conveyed beyond the literal interpretation of words and sentences. The concept of "woman gender" encompasses a complex interplay of biological, social, and cultural dimensions that define what it means to be a woman in various societies. This research aims to identify the representative illocutionary act used in reviewer utterances at “Theodore Melfi’s Hidden Figures movie 2016 in Hidden Figures - Movie Reaction!! by Blind Wave” on Blind Wave YouTube Channel, employing Searle’s theory of Illocutionary act. The representative illocutionary based on the function consist of act of stating, reporting, complaining, concluding and. After identifying these types, this research explored on gender reconstruction offered in utterances review to the object material. Furthermore, this research utilizes the qualitative descriptive study method, relying on text data and employing unique steps in data analysis, drawing on diverse designs. This method analyze the data from the standpoint of utterances that containing representative illocutionary act upon gender issue offered in it. There are 83 data consist of representative illocutionary act identified in video reaction, with 58 data in act of stating, 15 data in act of reporting, 2 data in the act of concluding, 4 data in the act of complaining and 5 data considered as act of suggesting. The race and gender can be sentence as revaluation in the movie reaction successfully as audience respond brought the “Discrimination” to “Differentiation”. The content of truth in the five representative illocutionary acts about women’s gender responses from reviewers Aaron, Calvin, and Rick demonstrates the audience's use of representative illocutionary acts to convey truths about segregation, equality, and the struggles faced by women, particularly African American women, reflecting a deep understanding of the social context of the 1960s. The content of belief, identified in nine utterances, reveals a shared belief among the reviewers in the importance of gender equality, the recognition of women's contributions, and the necessity of supportive environments for women's success. Finally, the description of reality in seven representative illocutionary acts provides a critical reflection on gender roles and systemic inequalities. Through their comments, the reviewers engage with the film's themes, emphasizing the need for greater recognition and equality for women in both historicaland contemporary contexts.
