Abstract
Vocabulary mastery plays a crucial role in enhancing students’ English skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. However, many senior high school students face challenges due to limited learning resources and a lack of engaging learning media. Digital media presents an effective solution for creating interactive and modern language learning experiences. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Vocabulary.com, a web-based learning platform, in improving the vocabulary mastery of tenth-grade students. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design, involving 36 students from a senior high school in Bandung. Data were collected through a 20-item multiple-choice vocabulary test administered before and after four sessions of procedural text learning using Vocabulary.com. The results showed a notable improvement in students’ vocabulary scores after the intervention. The Wilcoxon test produced a Z value of -5.019 with p < 0.001, and the N-Gain score was 70.60%, categorized as moderately effective. These findings indicate that Vocabulary.com positively impacts vocabulary mastery. The platform’s adaptive and interactive features support multimedia learning principles, making lessons more engaging and accessible. Integrating vocabulary practice within procedural texts provides authentic and meaningful contexts, which contribute to better retention and the practical use of vocabulary in communication. In conclusion, Vocabulary.com has proven effective in enhancing English vocabulary mastery among senior high school students. It is recommended that teachers incorporate the platform into classroom instruction to boost engagement and retention, students use it independently to build vocabulary and foster autonomy, and future research examine its application across diverse educational settings to broaden the generalizability of the findings.
