Abstract

ENGLISH: This research is motivated by the growing discourse on integrating spirituality into psychotherapy, which often still leaves a sharp dichotomy between biomedical approaches and traditional mysticism. In Indonesia, the Mind Healing Technique (MHT) has emerged as a complementary therapy method that attempts to bridge this gap by combining modern bioenergy principles and Islamic spirituality (Sufism). This phenomenon offers a significant academic space to examine how religious experience is constructed and interpreted within a structured therapeutic framework that remains grounded in transcendental values. This study aims to explore the phenomenology of religious experiences encountered by practitioners and clients within the MHT community. The research focuses on uncovering the forms and meanings of these experiences, analyzing the emotional and spiritual dimensions that emerge during the therapeutic process, explaining how religious experience functions as a catalyst for spiritual transformation, and evaluating the tangible implications of these experiences on the transformation of personal life, spirituality, and therapeutic practices of community members. The theoretical framework used to analyze this phenomenon is multidisciplinary. The analysis of the form of religious experience employs William James' theory (Ineffability, Noetic, Transiency, Passivity), while emotional dynamics are dissected using Rudolf Otto's concept of The Numinous (Mysterium Tremendum et Fascinans). Furthermore, the process of spiritual transformation is analyzed using Al-Ghazali's Sufi perspective on Tazkiyatun Nafs (Purification of the Soul). The research method employed is a qualitative approach with a phenomenological study design. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation studies, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model assisted by the NVivo application. The results indicate that experiences in MHT meet William James' criteria and reflect a pattern of emotional shift from Tremendum to Fascinans. Furthermore, religious experience works as a systematic catalyst for spiritual transformation through the stages of takhalli (emptying), tahalli (filling), and tajalli (illumination). The novelty of this research is the formulation of the concept of "Neuro-Theology of Tawakkul," where total surrender is proven to function as an active neural regulation mechanism that shifts dominance from the sympathetic to the parasympathetic nervous system to facilitate healing. MHT offers a "Bioenergy- Tawhid Integrative Psychotherapy" model that democratizes spiritual experience, proving that Peak Experience can be accessed by lay individuals through structured methods, culminating in Post-Traumatic Growth and mental resilience.
