Abstract

Indonesia: Film Dokumenter Sexy Killers merupakan salah satu karya jurnalisme lingkungan yang mengangkat isu dampak industri pertambangan batu bara terhadap kehidupan masyarakat dan ekosistem di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap makna denotasi, konotasi, serta mitos jurnalisme lingkungan yang terkandung dalam film dokumenter Sexy Killers melalui perspektif semiotika Roland Barthes. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis semiotika Roland Barthes yang membongkar tanda melalui tiga lapisan makna, denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos. Objek analisis berupa gambar-gambar representatif yang dipilih dari sembilan fragmen utama dalam film. Kemudian dianalisis secara mendalam untuk mengungkap makna yang bekerja di setiap lapisannya. Data primer diperoleh melalui observasi terhadap 48 potongan adegan yang dipilih sesuai dengan fragmen yang ditentukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada tataran denotasi, film ini menyajikan fakta-fakta visual yang faktual, investigatif, dan berpihak pada kepentingan masyarakat, mencakup kerusakan ekosistem, penderitaan warga yang terdampak, jaringan kekuasaan, hingga harapan melalui energi alternatif. Pada tataran konotasi, film ini membangun sistem makna yang konsisten sebagai gugatan terhadap ketidakadilan yang mengorbankan rakyat kecil demi kepentingan kelompok berkuasa, sekaligus mengedukasi dan membangun empati penonton. Terakhir, pada tataran mitos, film ini membongkar konstruksi ideologis yang menormalisasi kerusakan lingkungan, seperti ideologi kemajuan, demokrasi, legitimasi religius, dan modernisasi yang selama ini dikonstruksi seolah bersifat alamiah dan tidak perlu dipertanyakan. English: The documentary film Sexy Killers is one of the works of environmental journalism that raises the issue of the impact of the coal mining industry on people's lives and ecosystems in Indonesia. This research aims to uncover the meaning of denotations, connotations, and myths of environmental journalism contained in the documentary Sexy Killers through the semiotic perspective of Roland Barthes. The approach used is a qualitative approach with Roland Barthes semiotics analysis method which dismantles signs through three layers of meaning, denotation, connotation, and myth. The object of analysis is representative images selected from the nine main fragments in the film. It is then analyzed in depth to reveal the meaning that works in each layer. Primary data were obtained through observation of 48 scenes selected according to the specified fragments. The results of the study show that at the level of denotation, this film presents visual facts that are factual, investigative, and in favor of the interests of the community, including the destruction of the ecosystem, the suffering of affected citizens, power networks, and hopes through alternative technologies. At the level of connotation, this film builds a consistent system of meaning as a lawsuit against injustice that sacrifices small people for the benefit of the ruling group, as well as educating and building audience empathy. Finally, at the mythical level, this film dismantles the ideological constructs that normalize environmental damage, such as the ideology of progress, democracy, religious legitimacy, and modernization that have been constructed as if they were natural and unquestionable.
