Abstract

Boy Erased is a movie Script that focuses on the journey of a main character in looking for his identity. He passes through the development status of self-identity as explained by Marcia that known from the characterization theory of Nurgiyantoro and the personality structure of Freud. In analyzing this movie script, therefore, the researcher uses the structuralism theory that focuses on the dramatic techniques of characterization to answer the characterization construction of the main character and also applies the psychoanalysis theory that contents of personality structure to answer self-identity construction of the main character. The research method that used by the researcher is descriptive qualitative that has been argued by Kirk and Miller (Sarwono: 2006), as well as the content analysis that argued by Walliman (2011) becomes the instrument of this research. The findings of the analysis are the characterization of the main character has been formed by the dramatic techniques that consist of conversational, behavioral, mind and feeling, consciousness, character reaction and other character reaction technique. In addition, the construction of self-identity passes the psychoanalysis theory that dominant in ego personality structure, and the development status of self-identity that the main character’ possess are identity-moratorium and achievement.
