Abstract
This thesis discusses racial discrimination experienced by the black race, the black race is made slaves by the white race. Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852) is known as one of the novels that discusses racism which caused controversy between North and South America because of his agreement and disapproval of slavery in America which led to civil war in America (1861-1865). Uncle Tom's Cabin was written By Harriet Beecher Stowe. This novel presents an issue of slavery which is quite cruel, because based on the injustice of treatment, they look for ways to become human beings who are free from being treated as slaves. The researcher formulated two research questions in this study. The first question is How racial discrimination is depicted in Uncle Tom's Cabin novel. The second question is about What effect does Race Discrimination have on Uncle Tom's Cabin. The object of this study is Uncle Tom's Cabin Novel. The author uses descriptive analysis drawn from dialogues and monologues found in novels, identifying, classifying and reporting data. In this thesis the writer uses race theory to better understand discrimination based on race and a mimetic approach to better understand the context of discrimination. This research methodology is descriptive qualitative taken from books and novels as data sources. The analysis found several effects of racial discrimination in Uncle Tom's Cabin novel, First: Slaves as goods that were sold and there was no protection of human rights even though slaves were also human, they transferred ownership. Second: Received harsh treatment from the owner. Third: Discrimination based on skin color, because black is in the lowest class status. Fourth: Slaves do not have rights because their status is regulated by the owners. Fifth: Slaves belonged to the lowest class so they were subjected to discrimination.
