Abstract
Perfectionist tendency among today’s college students have significantly increased, specifically in physical appearance, career, and academic performance. This perfectionist tendency also called perfectionism. It is a personality trait marked by demanding everything should be perfect and ideal. In academic settings, perfectionism associated with grades, learning behaviours, motivation, and academic self-efficacy. The research is intended (1) to find out EFL students’ perfectionism level, (2) to find out EFL Students’ Speaking Achievement, and (3) to find out the correlation between EFL students’ perfectionism and their speaking achievement. This research used a quantitative research approach, specifically correlation design, adopting the Revised Almost Perfect Scale (APS-R) to find students’ perfectionism and speaking online presentation task assessment to find speaking achievement. The participants of this research were 32 of English Education Department students class of 2020 in UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, which was selected by simple random sampling. The data was obtained from questionnaire and task assessment. The data analysis was presented by using Pearson’s correlation coefficients by SPSS 25. The results of this research showed that there are 81,2% of students have a medium to very high perfectionism and 84% of students have a good speaking achievement with the average score 83,78. The data analysis results showed the correlation coefficient score result is -0,037. Based on the hypothesis test using the t-test with t-count = -0,204 and t-table = 2,042 with the degree of freedom df = 30 and significant value 0,05. The t-count is lower than the t-table, therefore the Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected. In conclusion, the correlation of the Indonesian EFL students’ perfectionism and their speaking achievement is negative and not significant.
