Abstract

This research focuses on the transformation of the novel's plot into the film in order to assess the reduction, addition, and modification of the novel's essential aspects, especially the plot. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel The Hound of the Baskervilles and Paul McGuigan's film The Hound of Baskerville are chosen the data sources for this study. Reading, watching, and taking procedures were used to collect the data. This research utilized Eneste's Ekranisasi theory, Mays' plot theory and a comparative methodology to compare the plot structures of novels and films. As a result of adapting the novel The Hound of the Baskervilles into the film The Hound of Baskerville, there are 7 reductions, 2 additions, and 10 modifications. Yet, the film is still considered a relevant story to the novel as the source work.
