Abstract

ENGLISH: This study is conducted to describe and explain the process types of transitivity analysis that are characterized in the news text of The Jakarta Post newspaper. This study reveals the dominant process type in the news text of The Jakarta Post and also aims to explain the subject participant of the transitivity analysis. The object of this study is news taken from The Jakarta Post published in June 2019. This study concerns functional grammar, mainly on transitivity analysis. In addition, the researcher conducts this research by using a qualitative approach. Thus, the researcher used a descriptive method in this research. In analyzing, the data are collected by reading and segmenting them into clauses. However, to find out dominant processes the researcher uses the formula to convert the number of processes into percentage form, then provides its descriptive statistic in the table. The researcher found in the Jakarta newspaper in June 2019, that material process dominates. Material process in news text entitle “Samoa bans hit Elton John biopic over gay sex scenes” is 34.3%, and then entitle “LGBT support growing in K-pop” is 40.5%, on entitle “Tinder lets users swipe right on list with LGBT+ choices” is 60%, on entitle “Elton John blasts Russian cuts of gay sex scenes in 'Rocketman'” is 56.3%, and the last in news text on entitle “Teens, superheroes lead charge in LGBTQ Hollywood movie characters” material process is 35.2%. In addition, editors often criticized the use of quotations in terms of editorial problems. It can be said that the editorial ideology is neutral. Moreover, The Jakarta Post as the mass media in bringing the issue remains neutral in criticizing and leading public opinion. INDONESIA: Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menggambarkan dan menjelaskan proses jenis analisis transitivitas yang dicirikan dalam teks berita surat kabar The Jakarta Post. Studi ini mengungkapkan jenis proses yang dominan dalam teks berita The Jakarta Post dan juga bertujuan untuk menjelaskan peserta subjek dari analisis transitivitas. Objek penelitian ini adalah berita yang diambil dari The Jakarta Post yang diterbitkan pada Juni 2019. Penelitian ini berkaitan dengan tata bahasa fungsional, terutama pada analisis transitivitas. Selain itu, peneliti melakukan penelitian ini dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Dengan demikian, peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif dalam penelitian ini. Dalam menganalisis, data dikumpulkan dengan membaca dan mengelompokkannya menjadi klausa. Namun, untuk mengetahui proses yang dominan, peneliti menggunakan rumus untuk mengubah jumlah proses menjadi bentuk persentase, kemudian memberikan statistik deskriptif dalam tabel. Peneliti menemukan di koran Jakarta pada Juni 2019, bahwa material process mendominasi. Material process dalam teks berita berjudul “Samoa bans hit Elton John biopic over gay sex scenes” adalah 34,3%, dan kemudian berjudul “LGBT support growing in K-pop” adalah 40,5%, pada judul “Tinder lets users swipe right on list with LGBT+ choices” adalah 60%, pada judul “Elton John blasts Russian cuts of gay sex scenes in 'Rocketman'” adalah 56,3%, dan yang terakhir dalam teks berita yang berjudul “Teens, superheroes lead charge in LGBTQ Hollywood movie characters” material process adalah 35,2%. Selain itu, editor sering mengkritik penggunaan kutipan dalam hal masalah editorial. Dapat dikatakan bahwa ideologi editorial adalah netral. Yang artinya, The Jakarta Post sebagai media massa dalam mengedepankan isu ini tetap netral dalam mengkritik dan mengarahkan opini publik.
