Abstract

ENGLISH : Music is one of the most favorite entertainments for people around the world. One of popular group music bands is Maroon 5. In this modern era, there is popular platform that provide music in video form named YouTube. YouTube provides free access for the people to explore contents music video such as music lyric video. Therefore, this research discusses the study of translation techniques used to translate music lyrics videos on YouTube with research questions (1) What the most dominant translation techniques are used to translate the song lyrics of Maroon 5? (2) How do the used translation techniques affect the target language meaning of the lyrics of the songs? The main theory used of this research was 18 translation techniques theory by Molina and Albir (2002). This research used a qualitative research method and the data were analyzed by using content analysis technique. Based on the data analysis, the findings showed that 11 of 18 translation techniques were used to analyze 82 data. The most dominant techniques used was literal translation (36 times). Besides, every translation technique had different effects to the target language meaning. The conclusion, the most dominant techniques used is literal translation techniques. INDONESIA : Musik adalah salah satu hiburan paling favorit dari orang-orang di seluruh dunia. Salah satu grup band musik populer adalah Maroon 5. Di era modern ini, ada platform populer yang menyediakan musik dalam bentuk video bernama YouTube. YouTube memberikan akses gratis bagi orang-orang untuk mengeksplorasi konten video musik seperti video lirik musik. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini membahas kajian tentang teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan untuk menerjemahkan video lirik musik di YouTube dengan pertanyaan penelitian (1) Teknik penerjemahan apa yang paling dominan digunakan untuk menerjemahkan lirik lagu Maroon 5? (2) Bagaimana teknik penerjemahan yang digunakan mempengaruhi makna bahasa sasaran dari lirik lagu? Teori utama yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori 18 teknik penerjemahan oleh Molina dan Albir (2002). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dan data dianalisis dengan teknik analisis isi. Berdasarkan analisis data, temuan menunjukkan bahwa 11 dari 18 teknik penerjemahan digunakan untuk menganalisis 82 data. Teknik yang paling dominan digunakan adalah terjemahan literal (36 kali). Selain itu, setiap teknik penerjemahan memiliki pengaruh yang berbeda terhadap makna bahasa sasaran. Kesimpulannya, teknik penerjemahan yang paling dominan digunakan adalah terjemahan literal.
