Abstract
This study examines the students' perceptions of learning reading narrative texts in offline and online classes during the new normal pandemic. Specifically, this research aims to achieve two objectives: 1) To find out how the student’s perceptions of learning reading narrative text during offline class on blended learning in the new normal pandemic. 2) To find out how the student’s perception of learning reading narrative text during online class on blended learning in the new normal pandemic. This study uses a qualitative research design with case study specifications. The steps of qualitative data analysis by Creswell (2012) were used for this study. The participants of this study were 32 grade 11 students of MAN 1 Sukabumi City. Questionnaires and interviews were used to obtain data on students' perceptions in the offline and online classes in learning reading narrative text. The result of this study has shown that students have positive and negative perception, and there are similarities and differences between offline and online classes in learning reading narrative text. Positively, in practice, learning reading narrative text both in offline and online classes goes well, this is also the similarity between both types of learning. Negatively, in the learning process, during pandemic with the restrictions the learning is felt to be less effective because it becomes rushed. And the online class is not so effective because the distance between students and teachers causes a lack of supervision so students feel free to do anything, this is what becomes the differences on effectiveness both of offline and online class. In addition, students feel many kinds of difficulties so their reading ability did not increase in this online class, different with offline class student’s reading ability improved after learning reading narrative text.
