Abstract

Language style is the way people manipulate others and control people in making interactions, bringing the message that is usually conveyed in words and tone of voice,formally or informally. People cannot avoid the style in making communication, because it is so integral part of society. Therefore the writer was interested in analyzing language style in form of spoken language.In this research, the writer then proposed two problems:1.What the types of language styles are used by the main characters of Great Expectations film ? and 2. How is the tone of language styles constructed by the main characters of the Great Expectations film? The method used in this research was descriptive method with qualitative approach. Meanwhile, the theory used to analyze the data was from Mc Crimmon (1972). Based on the result of data analysis, the writer found all types of language style based on diction in Great Expectation film. The writer classified the language styles on Great Expectation film: informal style (11), formal style (10), colloquial style (7).Besides, there were found all types of language style based on tone: simple style (11), middle style (10), and greatful& powerful style (7). From the findings of the data analysis, it can be concluded that the main characters of Great Expectations film tended to use informal style since the use of informal style can create relaxed and intimate conversation. It is really appropriate to be used in the conversation or dialogue form. The main character of Great Expectations film used informal style in every situation which was less serious than formal style.
