Abstract

Social deixis is a linguistic phenomenon that cannot be separated from real life, because social deixis is often found and occurs in our daily conversations. This study aims to find out the kind and to describe the function of social deixis found in the podcast by Eric Nam and Johnny of NCT in K-pop Daebak Show entitled Johnny of NCT 127 Dishes on The Met Gala, Acting, Djing, And Beyond! | Daebak Show S3 EP 5. The problem of this research is formulated in two research questions: (1) What kind of social deixis that used by Eric Nam and Johnny of NCT in K-Pop Daebak Show Podcast, (2) What is the function of the social deixis that used by Eric Nam and Johnny of NCT in K-Pop Daebak Show Podcast. The data are analyzed in a qualitative descriptive method by using Levinson’s theory in pragmatics. The result of this research shows that from 62 data found in the podcast by Eric Nam and Johnny of NCT in K-pop Daebak Show, there are 49 data that classified into the relational social deixis expressions. It consists of 34 speaker and referent, 4 speaker and addressee, 9 speaker and bystander, and 2 speaker and setting. Moreover, there are 13 data of absolute social deixis expressions that are found in the object of research. It consists of 5 authorized speaker, and 8 authorized recipient absolute. Furthermore, the second finding shows that the three functions of social deixis are also found in the utterances in the podcast by Eric Nam and Johnny of NCT in K-pop Daebak Show. Those are indicated as 3 social status differentiation, 34 politeness, and 25 social identity function of social deixis.
