Abstract
Listening is an essential skill for communicating in English. Students majoring in English Language Education at the Islamic State University of Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung must complete a listening course. The purpose of this study is to investigate students' opinions on listening anxiety in a post-pandemic situation as well as how listening anxiety affects students' listening comprehension. This study employed narrative inquiry as a qualitative design. Second-semester English Language Education majors at Sunan Gunung Djati State Islamic University Bandung took part in this study. Adapted surveys and interviews are utilized to acquire study data on the types and levels of listening anxiety in pupils. This study used random sampling for the questionnaire with 44 participants, and 10 participants were chosen for the interview. The ten participants include five students with mild listening anxiety and five students with high listening anxiety. Listening anxiety is classified into three levels: low, moderate, and extreme. According to the findings of this study, 32 of 44 students (72.7%) have moderate anxiety, seven (15.9%) have high anxiety, and five (11.4%) have low anxiety. Fear of negative assessment is the most common sort of anxiety experienced by both high and low levels. Furthermore, communication apprehension is a sort of anxiety that is also experienced by high-anxiety students. This is caused by internal variables such as a lack of language mastery and self-confidence, as well as external influences such as lecturers and learning environments. Meanwhile, most participants do not regard the post-pandemic era as their primary problem in learning English listening. In this study, students are intended to learn more about the type and severity of their listening anxiety. Furthermore, lecturers are supposed to recognize anything that may cause students concern. The subject of learning is limited to the scope of this investigation. As a result, more research may be carried out.
