Abstract

This research’s objective is to find the comparison of two television series, Wednesday (2022) and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018) of their Gothic elements using the theories of Fred Botting, Ann B. Tracy and Mary Ellen Snodgrass. Based on those theories, the Gothic elements includes setting, plot, character, theme, tone and atmosphere. There are two research questions in this research, the Gothic elements as well as the similarities and differences materialized in the television series Wednesday (2022) and The Chilling Adventure of Sabrina (2018). To answer the first research question, a qualitative method is applied, however to answer the second question, a comparative method is used. Based on this research, it was found that there are 17 similarities, with four similarities in setting, four in plot two in character, two in theme, three in tone and two in atmosphere between Wednesday (2022) and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018). It was also found there are 18 differences between Wednesday (2022) and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018) with seven differences in setting, four in plot, two in character, three in theme, one in tone and one in atmosphere. Moreover, based on the whole datum in this research, the data that has the most amount is the data WAS with seven datum which describes Wednesday, setting and synthetic sublime.
