Abstract
Love language is how people express and experience love in relationships. It can create meaningful and profound connections between individuals, fostering love, affection, and intimacy in romantic relationships. Meanwhile, figurative language is the use of words or expressions in a way that deviates from their literal meaning to create a more vivid, imaginative, and expressive effect. It can add depth, imagery, and richness to writing or speech by transcending literal meanings and conveying ideas or feelings more creatively and imaginatively. Therefore, the researcher is interested and needs to research this topic with research questions: 1. What are the types of love language in the novel Five Feet Apart? 2. What are the types of figurative language of love language in the novel Five Feet Apart? This study used a qualitative descriptive method, and the main theories used were from Chapman (1992) and Perrine (1969). Based on the data analysis, the findings showed that the types of love languages found were Words of Affirmation (23 Data), Quality Time (12 Data), Physical Touch (11 Data), Receiving Gifts (7 Data), and Acts of Service (7 Data). Meanwhile, the types of figurative language of love language found were Metaphor (13 Data), Imagery (11 Data), Personification (9 Data), Symbolism (8 Data), Simile (6 Data ), and Hyperbole (4 Data). From the findings, it is concluded that that the type of love language of words of affirmation was the most often used to develop characters by showcasing their vulnerability and emotional intimacy. Furthermore, the figurative language of love language that was most often used was a metaphor to create strong mental images and appeal to the reader's imagination.
