Abstract

Vocabulary is the most important language skill in language learning acquisition. However, still there are many students that struggle and difficulty memorizing the vocabulary. This research aims to know whether there is any effect of using the British Council website on young learners’ vocabulary. This research uses a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design that consisted of one group pre-test and post-test design class. The research site of this research was at SDN 1 Cibunar, Sukabumi, West Java. The population of this research was the fourth-grade students of SDN 1 Cibunar. While the sample of this research was 25 students of class 4B. This research used three different tests to analyse the data. Those tests were the normality test, hypothesis test, and N-gain. The result of this research shows that there was a significant effect on young learners’ vocabulary mastery after receiving treatments being taught using the British Council website. After evaluating the collected data, it was determined from the pre-test score that the mean score of young learners’ vocabulary ability before receiving the treatment using the British Council website was 2.96. While the mean score on the post-test after receiving the treatment through the British Council website was 6.72. It indicates that the British Council website significantly improves the students’ vocabulary mastery.
