Abstract

Fantasy is a genre in which magical and supernatural events are a major component of a theme, storyline, and/or location. Stories can fall into the categories of historical fiction, romance, adventure, horror, and science fiction. Clash of The Titans Movie 2010, directed by Louis Letterier, tells the story of Perseus, son of Zeus, and one of the most successful movies in the movie industry, especially in fantasy. Therefore, this research is related to fantasy formula in fantasy movie, and the objectives of the research are: 1. To describe the fantasy genre's formulas are represented in “Clash of the Titans”, and 2. To describe how fantasy formulas are built in the “Clash of the Titans” movie. The research applied the descriptive-qualitative method to describe the data with the main theory used for analyzing data by Cawelti (1979), Campbell (1949) and Synder (2011). The research found that Clash of The Titans (2010) have thirteen data of archetypal characters, five data of mythical elements, five data of the journey, one data of the treasure and one data for actions motive.There are fourteen data from eight videos of advertisements. Furthermore, there are found the kinds of built in fantasy formula by using mise-en-scene theory, the settings, makeup and costume, and acting behavior from this movie. The settings found mythical places there are Mount Olympus and The Underworld that many places inside. As well as the makeup and costume in this movie that contribute to build in fantasy formula, there is the visual richness of the fantasy character, shows the mythic and ancient Greece filled with gods, heroes, and mythical creatures. The actions and behavior of the characters such as the hero Perseus, the warriors, Hades and Pegasus contribute to the overall adventure. In conclusion, that these mise-enscene data found is the things that build the fantasy formula in the Clash of The Titans (2020) movie, which is very important for the results of visualization a film.
