Abstract

ENGLISH : This research is entitled “Infidelity in a Marriage as Portrayed in The Great Gatsby and Pada Sebuah Kapal: A Comparative Literature Analysis”. It is about literature study. Both of the novels are written by American and Indonesian authors, namely F. Scott Fitzgerald and N.H. Dini. Infidelity phenomenon that often occur in a relationship of husband and wife. A infidelity has been around since the first times king and noblemen have their cheating partner, which is describe as the power of a king and noblemen than can do what they want, and it continues growing up in the communal life, and usually a infidelity at the time just for gratification of lust, Nowadays, it is differences are two of them. Now, infidelity has many motifs, miscommunication, and less of attention. This research talking about the comparison of both of the novels that have different cultures and nations. And the theory that I used by Rajali Kasim in Sastra Bandingan: Ruang Lingkup dan Metode and by Warren and Wellek in Theory of Literature. The purpose of the research are to expose how infidelity is demonstrated in both of the novels and to expose the differences and similarities between the novels. This research applied descriptive qualitative method of Meleong. Steps in this research include read both of the findings, collecting data, analysis data, and the result of this research indicates that the infidelity that appears in the novel The Great Gatsby and Pada Sebuah Kapal, which has a moral massage that this novel involves love and forbidden lust which creates disloyalty between one and other, it can be found that in this novel the author describes several factors that; infidelity can happened in a family because of many motifs, like the third person, money, miscommunication, and no more honesty between husband and wife. INDONESIA : Skripsi ini berjudul Infidelity in a Marriage as portrayed in The Great Gatsby and Pada Sebuah Kapal: A Comparative Literature Analysis. Novel ini masing masing di tulis ole penulis Amerika dan Indonesia yaitu F. Scott Fitzgerald dan N.H. Dini. Fenomena perselingkuhan dalam hubungan suami dan istri sudah sejak dahulu ada sejak zaman kerajaan dan bangsawan yang terlibat perselingkuhan yang digambarkan sebagai kekuasaan oleh sang penguasa dan bangsawan yang mampu berbuat semaunya dan hal ini terus berkembang dikalangan masyarakat dan biasanya perselingkuhan pada saat itu hanya sebgai pemuas nafsu namun yang terjadi di jaman ini banyak hal penyebab terjadinya perseingkuhan, Skripsi ini membahas tentang perbandingan kedua novel yang memiliki budaya yang berbeda dan jelas juga kedua novel ini berbeda kebangsaan dan di tulis pada rentang waktu yang berbeda. Teori yang saya gunakan oleh Rajali Kasim dalam sastra bandigan: Ruang Lingkup dan Metode dan juga didukung oleh teori yang berasal dari Warren dan Wallek dalam Theory of Literature. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkapkan bagaimana perselingkuhan digambarkan dalam kedua novel tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatpi dari Meleong. Langkah-langkah dalam penelitian ini meliputi; membaca kedua novel, mengumpulkan data, menganalisis semua dat ayng sudah terkumpul, dan hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa kedua novel inimelibatkan cinta dan nafsu terlarang yang menimbulkan ketidaksetiaan antara satu sama lain, dapat ditemukan bahwa penulis dari kedua novel ini memaparkan beberapa factor penyebab peselingkuhan yang terjadi di dalam novel seperti; Perselingkuhan bisa terjadi karenal ke –tidak harmonisan sebuah keluarga yang di sebabkan oleh berbagai motif, seperti orang ketiga, uang, komunikasi yang buruk dan tidak adanya kejujuran antara suami dan istri.
