Abstract

An essay is a common form of academic writing. It is written about a single topic that is divided into several paragraphs. Due to a longer piece of paragraph, an essay is considered as the most difficult task for EFL learners to complete. In utilizing pictures on Pinterest, this study aims on exploring EFL learners’ experiences in using it to write essays. Case study and qualitative methods are both used in this study. This is utilized due to Gerring (2004) statement, the depth of analysis is one of the primary virtues of the case study design. The participants of this study are eight senior year students, eight semesters, of the English Education Department in Islamic State University Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. The findings of this study demonstrate that Pinterest supports students’ ability to generate ideas for their essay writing. Specifically, students are able to utilize Pinterest in three steps of writing an essay: pre-writing, drafting, and revising. As a result, it indicates the students’ adequate responses to the use of Pinterest in discovering writing ideas. Therefore, after using Pinterest, the students’ essay writing results are written in an appropriate manner.
