Abstract
This research aims to investigate the stages of hero’s journey and archetypes that are stated by Christopher Vogler (2007) in the novel Eon by Alison Goodman. This novel tells about the hero’s journey of Eona to become a Dragoneye and save the kingdom. This research analyze: 1.) What are the stages of the hero‘s journey presented in Alison Goodman‘s Eon? 2.) How are the archetypes implicitly presented through the hero’s journey in Alison Goodman’s Eon?. To accomplish the results of the research questions, the writer uses Christopher Vogler’s hero’s journey and archetypes theories. This study uses a literary criticism method with an objective approach from Abrams. The results of this study indicate that the main character (hero) in the novel, Eona, goes through eleven stages of the hero's journey. The seven archetypes with their respective roles in the hero's journey were also found. The stages of the hero's journey and the archetypes in this novel are related to each other because the archetypes have a role in supporting the hero's journey. This study suggests that Christopher Vogler's theory of the hero's journey and archetypes is effectively used in the story pattern of an adventure novel.
