Abstract

This research aims to describe: 1) the purpose of affair in TV series Doctor Foster and the novel Layangan Putus, and 2) the representation of affair in TV series Doctor Foster and the novel Layangan Putus. The data used in this study are TV series and the novel that raise the theme of affair of different countries, namely TV series Doctor Foster which originated in United Kingdom and the novel Layangan Putus which originated from Indonesia. To analyze the subject in this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research methods and a comparative literature approach because this research is comparing two literary works. As a result of this research, there are two purposes of affair in TV series Doctor Foster and the novel Layangan Putus, which are to marry their mistress and to live with their mistress and the representation of affair that occurs in TV series Doctor Foster and the novel Layangan Putus are the way Simon and Aris are met, vacationed, took romantic pictures with their mistresses secretly and unknown to their wifes as well as represented by the cast’s own words, the impact of the affair that occurs experienced by the victims of affair, Gemma and Kinan. In TV series Doctor Foster, Kate is also pregnant with Simon's child and in the novel Layangan Putus, Aris married with Lidya secretly and unknown to Kinan.
