Abstract

This study is based on the movie The 300 by Zack Snyder and the purpose of this study is to show the heroic aspects contained in the movie 300 which shows the heroic aspects displayed by the Spartans. The second purpose of this research is to represent the image of the Spartans as a hero where the Spartans fight for their freedom from invaders, they prefer to die as honourable soldiers rather than having to submit to Xerxes. This research method is carried out based on the representation of several scenes and supported by the theory that has been presented in Cawelti's theory of formulaic literary devices, which then this research will use structuralism heroism from Joseph Campbell, and also heroism aspects in literature by Allison and Goethals. The results of this study show the aspects of heroism shown by the movie to the Spartans as heroes. With the use of plot, setting and characterization. The plot and setting use Campbell's structuralism hero's journey. And in the characterization section shows the heroic archetypes presented by Allison and Goethals.
