Abstract

This study examines the heroine journey and the types of archetypes each character on this film. The object of this study is a film titled Captain Marvel which was produced by Kevin Feige in 2019. The metode that uses in this study is qualitative descriptive method. In this study, the researcher reveals the type of archetypes based on the characteristics, traits, and dialogues expressed by each character. The researcher also revealed the journey taken by the heroine using a theory from Christopher Vogler. This theory of the heroine journey explains the stages that the heroine goes through in a story. Based on the results of the study, researcher found that there are seven types of archetypes owned by characters in the Captain Marvel movies, including hero archetypes, mentors, heralds, shapeshifters, threshold guardians, allies, and shadows. In the journey of a female hero, researcher found that there are 12 stages that Carol Danvers goes through to become a female hero. The stages include, ordinary world, call to adventure, refusal of the call, meeting with the mentor, crossing the first threshold, tests, allies, enemies, approach to the inmost cave, the ordeal, reward, the road back, resurrection, and return with elixir. After going through the 12 stages of the heroine journey, Carol Danvers managed to prove that she is a heroine, having successfully saved the Skrulls. Key word: heroine journey, types of archetype.
