Abstract

Speaking is one of the language components that have to be taught to the student in learning a foreign language. Teacher needs better strategy to help students in teaching speaking of spoken text. There are some strategies that teachers can use in teaching speaking to the students. One of them is using Numbered Heads Together technique. The research investigates the teachers use Numbered Heads Together technique and to find out students’ responses after using Numbered Heads Together technique supported by picture in teaching speaking descriptive text. This research was conducted by using a qualitative-research approach and was designed as a case study. The participants were nine students of the 8th grade at MTs. Al-Muawanah, Majalaya, Bandung in the academic year 2020/2021. The participants were selected purposively based on the students’ scores in English lesson. The data collection techniques of this study were observation and document analysis. The observation data was aimed to discover teachers implement Numbered Heads Together technique. Then, document analysis was used to find out students’ responses after using Numbered Heads Together technique supported by picture in teaching speaking descriptive text. To sum up, the presents study concluded that NHT technique of the 8th grade at MTs. Al-Muawanah, Majalaya, Bandung in the academic year 2020/2021 can motivate and make the student fun and enjoyable.
