Abstract
This study investigates the effectiveness of using the Quizalize application as a learning media to improve reading comprehension in narrative texts for eighth-grade junior high school students. The issue underlying this research is the students’ difficulties in understanding the text, identifying key words, and a lack of motivation to engage with the reading text. To resolve these issues, Quizalize a gamified digital learning platform, was introduced as an engaging and competitive alternative method to support reading comprehension learning. This research was conducted at SMPN 72 Kota Bandung. The sampling of this research is purposive sampling consisted of VIII-C class in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through multiple-choice tests, using a pretest (administered on paper) and posttest (using Quizalize). The results showed that the mean score of students’ reading comprehension in narrative texts before using the Quizalize application was 62.17. In contrast, the posttest score increased to 90.50, indicating a significant improvement of 28.33 points. Furthermore, the calculated N-Gain score was 0.7419, categorized as “High,” and the mean N-Gain was 74.18%, categorized as “Moderately Effective.”, which indicates that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, that means the Quizalize application as a learning media is effective in improving students’ reading comprehension in narrative texts. In conclusion, the implementation of the Quizalize application as a learning media is effective in improving students’ reading comprehension in narrative texts. This strategy proved effective in helping students overcome key challenges in reading comprehension and recommended to the teachers integrate Quizalize or similar gamified platforms into reading lessons to increase student engagement and achievement.
