Abstract
As a literary work, song lyrics articulate various reflections in society as well as moral values. This study analyzes the Islamic values that become moral messages in nine English-language song lyrics by Maher Zain in the album Forgive Me. Therefore, in this study there are two problem formulations related to what moral messages are contained in the lyrics of the album Forgive Me by Maher Zain and what Islamic values are the moral messages in the lyrics of the album Forgive Me by Maher Zain. The researcher applied an expressive literary criticism approach, supported by William Wordsworth's (1909) moral theory in literary works. The structuralism method was used by the researcher to find the research results. The data collected in this study was obtained from Maher Zain's album Forgive Me and shows that the moral messages contained in the song lyrics are moral values that are based on Islamic values. The results of this research show that in the nine song lyrics on the Forgive Me album there are moral messages such as always remembering Allah SWT, being grateful, respecting parents, caring for each other, surrendering, never giving up, being patient, honest and repenting. Then all the Islamic moral messages contained in the nine song lyrics are described in two ways, namely through figurative language and through repetition. The use of these two methods assumes that Maher Zain, a singer and lyricist, wanted to create lyrics containing moral messages that could be easily memorized. This would allow the Islamic moral message to be understood and articulated in social life.
