Abstract

The process of hegemony is a process whereby anyone wants to dominate over others. There are several ways that can be taken to hegemonize anyone either with a good purpose or an oppressive purpose. In this study discusses the hegemony of fascism with the title The Hegemony of Fascism in George Orwell's "1984". The focus of this research is to find and analyze the problem of fascism element in 1984 novel and hegemony counter form by using Hegemony Gramsci theory and fascism and using Gramsci hegemony literary critic as its approach. This explains what elements construct the fascim and how the counter-resistance or hegemony contained in the novel. This research is a qualitative research descriptive. Sources of data in this study is the novel 1984 by George Orwell. The data acquisition process is obtained by reading and writing the source. Then the technique of data analysis using descriptive technique of qualitative. The first element of fascism contained in the novel 1984 and then successfully disclosed and analyzed that hegemony can be done in two ways the first role of the intellectuals and the second by the way of domination or violence. The first problem of this research is the hegemony of fascism with found as many as seven of the elements of fascism. Six of the fascism figures depicted in the novel include Irrationalism, nationalism, state, the leader principle, rascism and anticommunism. Then the second issue is to reveal how the counter hegemony. The form of counter hegemony found in this novel is a form of hegemony counter in conception idea and transforming ideas. The conclusion of the researcher that the fascist regime will remain strong hegemonize society to submit and obedient if there is no resistance or hegemony counter from the proletarian.
