Abstract

Researcher aim to study the representation of Trudy’s persona and shadow in novel The Summer House. This research mainly focuses on acknowledge the good and bad side of Trudy Palmer as antagonist character using a theory regarding of Carl Gustav Jung’s archetypal persona and shadow with an assistance of theory Dark Triad includes Machiavellianism, Narcissism, Psychopath also to put a theory of new criticism. The usage towards qualitative descriptive on research conduct of analysis in accomplish comprehensive data conduct and adequate interpretation for comprehend analysis regarding research questions. Overall result shows correspond data regarding first questions and second questions in a total of 61 data. The following data of first questions comprises about 46 data which conjoins the answer on a two concurrently opposite term of jung’s archetypes in persona and shadow to help acknowledges Trudy’s kind of persona into 3 types that includes a caring friend, a caring daughter, and a hooker also in consort with an acknowledges Trudy’s kind of shadow into 5 types that includes a murderer, a manipulator, a rebel teenager, a rebel daughter and a cruel. The succeeding data on second questions comprises about 15 data which answer the process of Trudy’s manifestation of persona and shadow which begin to emerges within Trudy’s kind of persona into 3 types includes reasons behind her intention of being caring friend, caring daughter, and a hooker also in consort with acknowledges the reasons on Trudy’s shadow of 5 types includes murderer, manipulator, rebel teenager, rebel daughter and cruel.
